Ceramics
It was the love of creating that led me to my discovery of clay, in the early 1990’s. At much the same time I discovered Yoga and hand-in-hand they have developed and grown in me.
Coiling, my favourite method of construction, has remained constant throughout history. It is a calming and contemplative practice. Each piece I create is individual, unique and contemporary, yet has ancient roots.
The feel of the emerging form on my hands throughout the creative process is an extremely important part of the work. It is the sensation, the touch, the pleasure of the intimate connection between the material and the maker which keeps me fully engaged in that process. In a sense that process is more important to me than the final product. It is often not until I can detach myself from the intensity of the work that I can fully appreciate the finished piece.
My art teaches me about acceptance in life. Not to chase the fruits of my labours or to be disappointed about the unexpected results, inevitable breakages, exploding pots etc. but rather to try and learn from the experience and to simply enjoy it.
It is a challenge with uncertainty at every stage.
Art mirroring Life.
I exhibit my work in exhibitions and galleries,
accept commissions and run workshops.
